Well, we had thought we might leave on Sunday and spend the night in Portland but as the day stretched on, we both realized that there was a more important issue - spending some quality time with Max. He's leaving, when were not sure, but he is leaving and we felt it more important to spend some time together, family style.
We took off for Best Buy to check out computers and a new cell phone for Max. That's when we hit the proverbial snag(s). Verizon on Coburg had spent 2 hours on Friday with us separating Max from our account - opps, didn't happen. They also charged me $50 for a smart phone that was free at Best Buy - note to self - NEVER SHOP AT THE VERIZON STORE!!! We then went back to Verizon and straightened out the snafu. By then, hot, tired and hungry, we went out for Thai at 6th and Blair - don't ask me for the name as I am unsure that I have enough vowels, just know it's the best buy in town. Speaking of Best Buy, we got back there just in time to watch them lock the doors for the night.
If you are keeping score, it's computer = 0, cell phone = 0, quality time = Grand Slam.
On Monday, we were up and out the door by 8:30. A few last minute housekeeping errands and up I- 5 we go rocking out to Little Feat and enjoying the moment. We got to Seattle around 2:00, checked into The Moore and went down to hang with the other tourists at Pike Market which is 2 blocks away. Oyster shooters and Seattle's best caffeine raised my spirits and hosed off some road debris.
We took a short nap in room 414 and then headed out for a 5 star meal at the Queen Ann Grill. The food was tasty but the company was even better. Satiated, we then headed back to the Moore for a bit of R & R.
A word about the Moore Hotel, a truly art deco ediface. It came highly recommended by our friends Robbie and David. Now these are men of taste and sophistication. We took their recommendation with the thought that it must be an ok place if they keep going back there. They did mention that it was a "vintage" building with no air conditioning. Well, ok......Seattle by the sound shouldn't be too hot, right? And it was centrally located and convenient to everything downtown. So we booked it. And they were right. It was centrally located, the decor was wonderful, the staff could not have been more helpful and the tv worked great. But the Moore was lacking in a few amenities. Like a temperature in the room somewhat less than sweltering, even with the top notch cooling system, and a working shower where a man trudging across the Sahara would leave thirsty, and quiet so you could actually sleep - the sirens speeding by on the quarter hour and drunken roving gangs lulled us to dreamland. So we decided against a second night.

Moore hotel air conditioning system--woefully inadequate

There was this nice picture in the room

The Moore was definitely "less" in some aspects

The local barista. You can't can't swing a dead cat without hitting a coffee stand in Seattle
