Jeff and I got back to the farm in the early afternoon, unpacked and took a nap. I was pooped. Many days of traveling, hiking and camping had worn me out! Saturday turned out marginally ok weatherwise. In other words, the rain storms were interspersed with a little sunshine. I got up, had coffee and breakfast and went outside and got to work. My goal was to hose off all the cobwebs from the house and mud and dirt from the concrete. It took me about 2 hours, but I did it! Then I washed down all the outside furniture, arranged the tables and chairs for the party, planted and transplanted, etc. etc. Jeff took off for town to run errands and get food. Max went to CG and got beer and pop. For my last task, I was just getting ready to fire up the tractor and start mowing when a thunderstorm complete with crackling lightning and downpour quelled my plans. Oh well, it was time to stop for the day anyway. Jeff brought home ingredients for Reuben sandwiches and boy were they delicious. The rye bread and Don Hermann pickles from Davis Bakery in Cleveland were the crowning touch.
The next morning, work continued. Miraculously, the weather cleared. By 2 pm we were ready for the crowd and what a great time we had. Jeff's chicken and burgers were a big hit, the cake was delicious and the graduates had a great time. Haley and Max have bright futures ahead of them. It was more than a little emotional for me to watch them open cards, sitting side by side, remembering when Carol and I were both pregnant at the same time and wondering what their futures would hold. What amazing human beings they have turned out to be. And how lucky we have been to be able to journey with them to adulthood.
