November 13--Home Sweet Home

When I woke up, the first thing I noticed was the quiet and lack of motion.  We had been disturbed at about 5 am with the sound of the anchor dropping, but soon went right back to sleep.  But now we were really in port.

We had gotten our packing done the evening before, so there wasn't much to do except look for items we might have forgotten and head for the breakfast buffet.  Just like on our first day, it was mobbed, but we managed to get one last omlette and find a seat by the pool.  We made some phone calls since we were now back in the good ole USA.  Then it was time to go.

We joined the rest of the people in our group and formed a seemingly endless line that moved at a snails pace.  Finally we got off the boat, through customs, on to the bus, to the airport and through check in.  It took two hours and we were really tired.  Jeff got us fish sandwiches at Burger King and we found a couple of seats by a window.  We bought a paper so Jeff could read about his Duckies and I could get a crossword and the comics and we sat and read until we thought it was about time to go to our gate.  When we got there, we also got bad news.  A two hour delay of our flight to PDX.  Thank goodness we had time to spare, but it was an annoyance, and LAX is a very uncomfortable place to spend time.

When we finally did get on the plane, our flight was quick and uneventful, and we caught the shuttle to the Marriot and soon were on the freeway south.  After a stop at Denney's we made it home around 10.  I couldn't believe I had to work in the morning, but life goes on even after a wonderful vacation.

Once again, Jeff and I have been able to travel and enjoy each other's company with a minumum of conflict.  (K's idea of conflict was my insistence on going to dinner with a concussion - gee, can't a guy go to dinner in peace?) I am so grateful to have a traveling companion that shares my interests.  We just have a really good time together no matter where we are or what we're doing.

Since we came back, we are again immersed in work and life in Oregon.  The rains have started, and the weather has turned cold.  There is snow in the mountains and the intensity of the holiday season is upon us.  But my mind often turns to scenes from our trip to Mexico.  Sitting on the balcony, watching the moon above and the sea rushing by below, the sun and sand of Cabo, the taste of a Margarita and the feel of the hot sun.  The laughter, the dancing, the conversations, the fun.  I am very grateful to have these memories to see me through the winter.

And a few more scenes from the trip:

One of the endless line of vendors at Cabo--Henna anyone?

I'm trading my boat in for this one--Cabo Harbor

Does the Tux detract from the Duck Hat?

One more of that Puerto Vallarta sunset.
